Phrases such as ‘you can heal yourself’, ‘thoughts become things,’ ‘life is an illusion’ and ‘you are responsible for everything that happens to you’ can actually cause anxiety and depression. Some practices can actually cause psychotic-like symptoms and psycho-spiritual crises are becoming much more prevalent. This is in part due to the glut of information (often false or misguided) from the internet, but also because of the nature of the times we live in. As practitioners we need to be versed in the self-help marketplace, as well as all the so-called woo-woo stuff– spirituality, spiritualism, metaphysics, mysticism, shamanism and energy medicine.
